Glucophage XR is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Glucophage XR belongs to a group of drugs called biguanides, which work by helping your body respond better to the insulin it makes naturally, decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes, and decreasing the amount of sugar your intestines absorb.
This medication comes in an extended-release tablet. It is typically taken once a day. Swallow Glucophage extended-release tablets whole.
Even though the side effects might not be very common, some individuals may have adverse effects of using Metformin XR generic including:

- Irregular heartbeat
Warnings and Interactions
Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions especially of severe breathing problems, blood problems, kidney disease or liver disease. You may experience blurred vision, dizziness or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires you to be alert and have a clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Glucophage XR is pregnancy category B, and it is not expected to cause harm to an unborn baby. You must consult your doctor if you are planning to conceive, are pregnant or are breastfeeding. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Glucophage XR, including steroids, heart or blood pressure medications, diuretics, birth control, seizure medications and thyroid medications.
